Fist of all let me clarify something. I do not like President Obama, I
did not vote for him nor would I ever vote for him. Okay now that I got
that off my chest. I was just informed about a college student that was
told to write for a graded assignment why he likes President Obama, and
what he thinks he will do good for the country. This is wrong in so
many ways I don't even know where to begin.
1)
Isn't college about teaching students to form their own opinions, to
think critically and for themselves? Apparently not anymore.
2)
A Professor pressing their views on young impressionable students is so
ridiculously unethical it could be in one of those cheesy ethics videos
your forced to watch at work.
IF a teacher states their view let it be a starting point for discussion, not an ending point for an assignment.
3)
I'm sure this Professor like many is tenured and couldn't be fired even
if there was good reason for it. Teachers should be able to lose their
jobs if they are bad at it just like all of us in the real world.
"Academia"
needs to take a good long look in the mirror and "hope" for a "change"
like the candidate for President their union supported so vigorously.
